I have had the opportunity to attend Burning Man twice, and each experience has left a lasting impression on me. The festival is a vibrant tapestry of diverse images and colors that blend together tightly, creating a sense of unity and community. What stood out to me the most was the overwhelming feeling of normalcy that I experienced amidst the abstract and chaotic environment. It reminded me of my childhood, grounding me in a familiar yet extreme setting.
Attending an event like Burning Man in the middle of a desert may seem unusual to some, given the harsh temperatures and unpredictable sandstorms. However, for me, it was a validating experience that allowed me to witness and partake in new and unique experiences. One of the most rewarding aspects of attending Burning Man is the opportunity to connect with different communities and individuals, each with their own reasons for being there.
During my second visit to Burning Man, I embraced a fearless attitude and performed on stage over 22 times. I knew heading into the Burn that having my own microphone from home, was a small but a significant piece of equipment that symbolized my personal journey to Burning Man I would carry the mic in a small case that said No Enemy. I felt that having my own microphone was like having my own talisman or magic wand giving me a personal mission to share my voice with anyone who would listen.
One night after a hand full of performance and running off adrenaline and dreams I showed up to perform with a group called The Glitch Mob.
After about 10 minutes of pure improv gold, a brave soul approached the side of the stage and made a daring request to borrow my precious microphone.
The guys in the group exchanged mischievous glances, then turned to me with exaggerated expressions of shock and disbelief. I couldn't resist the opportunity to play along, so I cheekily denied the request, declaring with a smirk, "Sorry, buddy, but this is My mic from My house!"
This lighthearted moment encapsulates the essence of my Burning Man experiences – a mix of spontaneity, connection, and personal accountability.
This experience in the desert served as a transformative period, shaping my ability to build relationships and connect with others.
I share this story not only to bring a smile to your face, but also to reflect on my ability to create meaningful experiences and take ownership of my choices. Burning Man has taught me the importance of embracing opportunities, forging connections, and embracing the unexpected in life.
